OLY FIRE MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of the Oly Fire
Girls’ Softball organization is to provide girls within the Olympia
School District an environment that encourages teamwork, good
sportsmanship, positive self-esteem, pride and athletic excellence.
THE OLY FIRE STORY (our history)
In 1995, it became evident to Olympia High School Varsity and Middle
School Coach Al Toliver that a travel program was needed to elevate the
Olympia School program to the next level. After much planning and
discussion the Oly Fire program was started that fall by Coaches Jeff
Gaither, Bruce Prager, Mark Gillis and Greg Fuiten. That first year
consisted of one 14 and under team with 17 Olympia students. The team
finished with a 39-12 record and a new respect for travel softball.
With the continued growth of the program a Board of Directors was added
in 2000. Going into the summer of 2006 the program proudly consists of
teams at the 10, 12, 14, 16, and 18 and under levels. The program
has achieved great results with several championships and National
Qualifying teams with several of the teams finishing very respectively
at the National Level.
The Middle School program has won the last three State Championship
titles and four overall. They have had 8 Elite Eight appearances in the
last 11 years. The High School team has 5 Elite Eight appearances
to go with its two State Championship titles in 2002 and 2003. A
visit to the IHSA and IESA websites records sections will also show the
records held by Olympia and Olympia athletes in the softball category,
far too numerous to mention here. The effects of the Oly Fire
program on the school program speak for themselves, no Olympia Softball
team had ever won a Regional Championship prior to the inception of the
Oly Fire Program.
The program has given many opportunities to its players, a total of 33
Oly Fire players have went on to play collegiately and have had very
successful careers at that level. Also, several Oly Fire players have
continued their careers in softball coaching positions also, passing on
what they have learned in the program to the future generations of
Olympia Softball players.
